A Love for Transformation

On the left, a sea-inspired makeup featuring a blue-hued face with aquatic decorations, and on the right, a dark, mythical creature design with elaborate eye details and black accents. Both images highlight Paris's skill in transformational makeup, reflecting her ability to embody diverse and intricate characters through her craft.

For Paris, the magic of cosplay lies in the transformation. “I just loved the idea of turning myself into someone else,” she shares. The ability to step into a completely different persona is what drew her into cosplay at the age of 13. Now, at 20, she continues to embrace the creative challenge of becoming different characters. “I feel like a completely different person when I’m in cosplay,” she adds, noting how it helps her overcome her natural shyness and step into the spotlight.

A Journey of Improvement

Featured are five distinct styles: a serene character with blue face makeup and floral accents, a frightening smile with sharp teeth, a gory zombie nurse, a sinister clown with a colorful wig, and a heavily scarred face with exposed tissues. This image captures the evolution and diversity of Paris's work, highlighting her improved skills in makeup artistry, costume design, and character transformation over seven years.

Paris’s first cosplay was the horror character “Smiley,” and over the past seven years, her skills have only improved. “My style hasn’t changed that much, but my skills have definitely improved,” she explains. With each new project, she hones her craft, perfecting her makeup techniques, costumes, and use of colored contacts to enhance her looks.

The Cosplay Experience: From Challenges to Rewards

On the left, a festive zombie version of a popular villainess with green skin and exposed teeth; the middle showcases a zombie superhero with detailed face stitches and vibrant red hair; on the right, a blue and red split-face design blending icy and fiery elements, enhancing the dramatic effect with skillful makeup and colored contacts. These images depict Paris's ability to creatively overcome challenges and express her artistry in cosplay.

One of Paris’s favorite aspects of cosplay is the opportunity to step out of her comfort zone. “It’s like improv acting but with no fear or anxiety,” she says. However, being a cosplayer also comes with its challenges, especially when dealing with online criticism. “The biggest challenge is definitely hate online. It hurts, but I just brush it off, block them, and move on,” she admits.

Despite the negativity, Paris remains committed to her craft and advises newcomers to keep going and not compare themselves to others. “Your cosplay will never be perfect the first time, but over time, you will improve and perfect it,” she encourages.

Paris’s Cosplay Process: From Inspiration to Execution

Collage of dramatic cosplay transformations by Paris, featuring iconic characters with exquisite makeup and colored contacts. Top row displays Mr. Grinch in vivid green, Pennywise the clown in haunting white and red, and Sally with her signature patchwork and stitches. The bottom row includes original media depictions to compare with Paris's creative interpretations, highlighting her attention to detail and skill in costume and makeup artistry in bringing these characters to life.

When it comes to choosing her next cosplay, Paris admits that it can be one of the hardest parts of her job. “The options are endless! I sometimes sit for hours just looking at who to cosplay,” she says. She often finds inspiration from social media, movies, and shows, keeping a long list of potential cosplays on her phone.

Once she selects a character, Paris begins her creative process by sketching out the look and listing the products she’ll need. “I also have a photo of the character in front of me,” she notes. From there, she creates the makeup, adds her favorite contacts, and completes the look with a wig and accessories.

Accuracy, Comfort, and Creativity

For Paris, the key elements of a successful cosplay are accuracy, comfort, and a touch of creativity.

You need your cosplay to be as accurate as possible; otherwise, no one will know who you’re cosplaying,” she explains. Comfort is also a major consideration, especially since she often wears her cosplays for long periods. You don’t want to be uncomfortable, do you?

As a special FX makeup artist, Paris also brings a unique level of creativity to her cosplays, often finding innovative solutions to challenges like making a character’s head appear larger or painting on intricate outfits.

Elevating Cosplay with EyeCandys Colored Contacts

Stunning cosplay makeup featuring innovative eye designs by Paris, with a focus on vibrant and dramatic colored contacts from EyeCandys. The central image showcases an artistic face paint of multiple eyes creating a surreal effect, complemented by real close-up views of various colored contacts including red, yellow, green, and white. These enhanced visuals demonstrate how colored contacts magnify the intensity of her cosplays, making each character portrayal strikingly unique and impactful.

Colored contacts are an essential part of Paris’s cosplay process. “They make the look go from a 5/10 to a 10/10!” she says. She loves using bright, vibrant lenses that can dramatically change her appearance and enhance the final transformation. “It’s crazy how something so small, like contacts, can change the look massively.”

Paris is particularly fond of characters with crazy-colored eyes, as they allow her to experiment with bold and vibrant contacts. “I’m so glad I finally started using them,” she adds, noting how they’ve become one of her favorite tools in her cosplay arsenal.

They help match the character’s eye color and add an extra layer of realism to the cosplay.

Tips for New Cosplayers Using Colored Contacts

For those new to colored contacts, Paris offers some encouraging advice: “Take your time and use the tweezers and little helper that come in a set.” While putting in contacts may seem intimidating at first, Paris assures that with a little practice, it becomes much easier. “If I can do it, you definitely can!
