- Stand about 8 inches from a mirror.
- Hold a ruler against your brow.
- Close your right eye to align the ruler's 0 mm mark with the center of your left pupil.
- Keep your head straight and then close your left eye while opening your right.
- The millimeter mark that aligns with the center of your right pupil is your PD.
- You've successfully measured your single PD!
For reading glasses, subtract 3mm from the value you just measured above and enter it into the PD field when adding to cart.
Tips for accuracy:
- Repeat the measurement 3-4 times at different times throughout the day. Your PD can change slightly, so an average of these readings is most reliable.
Getting a little help:
- It's easier with a friend. Keep your eyes open and look straight ahead.
- Your friend should stay out of your direct line of sight at eye level.
- Fix your gaze on an object 20 feet away, not on your friend. It's tough, but this is how you get the most accurate PD measurement.
This is what a typical glasses prescription (Rx) looks like:
- Sphere (SPH): +'ve value indicates hyperopia (farsightedness), -'ve indicates myopia (nearsightedness)
- Cylinder (CYL): having a value here indicates the presence of astigmatism. It can be written with + or -. - is usually written by an optometrist, whereas + is usually written by an ophthalmologist. They both mean the same thing.
- Axis: having a value here indicates the presence of astigmatism. Please note that 000 and 180 both mean the same thing.
- Both CYL and AXIS are needed together (cannot have one without the other!)
- Add: This provides magnifying power for reading, progressive, and bifocal lenses. You will have the same number for both eyes. We can process only reading glasses, not progressives or bifocals. Therefore, if you enter a value here, note that you will be receiving reading glasses. If you leave it blank or at 0.00, we will send you single vision glasses.
- PD (Pupillary Distance): The distance between your 2 pupils in millimetres. This is required to customize your glasses. See above on how to measure yours if your prescription doesn't already state it.
Our Rx lab can process any single-vision Rx (which includes normal glasses for farsightedness/nearsightedness and readers) that fits in the following ranges: SPH -10.00 to +10.00, CYL 0.00 to -6.00.
Blue light blocking lenses are beneficial for individuals who frequently use digital screens at night. The specialized coating on these lenses is designed to filter out blue light— the type of light emitted by screens that can interfere with the production of melatonin, a hormone that your body naturally generates to regulate sleep. By blocking blue light, these lenses aim to minimize its potential disruption to your sleep cycle, helping you to maintain a healthier sleep pattern.
The advantage of blue light blocking lenses lies in their ability to provide protection without altering your perception of colors. Unlike lenses with a yellow or amber tint that can distort color perception, the blue light filter coating is virtually clear. This means you can use your devices at night without the color of your screen becoming skewed and still enjoy the benefits of reduced eye strain and a potential improvement in sleep quality.
If your evenings involve staring at a screen—whether it’s for work, gaming, or binging your favorite shows—and you find it difficult to wind down afterward, consider trying blue light blocking lenses.
Please note that a slight blue-tinted reflection on these lenses is normal.

Choose the Right Lens Index & Type for Your Glasses
Lens Indices
Your lens index choice directly affects the comfort and aesthetics of your glasses. A higher index equates to a lighter, slimmer lens, important for strong prescriptions to avoid bulky glasses.
Indexes and SPH Ranges
- 1.56 Index: SPH 0.00 to +/-2.00.
- 1.61 Index: SPH -/+2.25 to -/+4.00.
- 1.67 Index: SPH -/+4.25 to -/+5.75.
- 1.74 Index: SPH -/+6.00 and above.
Your prescription strength should guide your lens index choice:
- No prescription: Select 1.56 Index
- SPH 0.00 to +/-2.00: Select 1.56 Index.
- SPH -/+2.25 to -/+4.00: Go for 1.61 Index.
- SPH -/+4.25 to -/+5.75: Pick 1.67 Index.
- SPH -/+6.00 and above: Use 1.74 Index.
Ensure you select the lens index that corresponds to your prescription strength. Incorrect selection leads to glasses that may be too thick and heavy, affecting comfort and wearability.
It is your responsibility to match your prescription with the appropriate lens index. If you need further guidance, do not hesitate to contact us before placing your order.

FAQ
Make sure you have the following in front of you to order a pair of well-fitted glasses accurate to your prescription (Rx):
- A copy of your glasses prescription, no more than 2 years old.
- Your pupillary distance (PD) should be written on the prescription. If not, please use our PD Measurement Tool.
- (Optional) A pair of glasses/sunglasses that already fit you well. Note the set of 3 numbers located on the temple (arm) or nose bridge of the frame.
Sometimes, your glasses prescription may not include your pupillary distance (PD), the distance between the centres of your pupils in millimetres. Your PD is absolutely mandatory when installing your prescription lenses for proper clarity and focus. If your PD isn't written on your prescription, it may be due to one of two reasons:
- Your prescription is for contact lenses.
If this is the case, you'll see a contact lens brand on your prescription. The prescription here won't work for glasses, so you should go to your optometrist and request one. Alternatively, you can take an online eye exam on Opternative (not affiliated) from the comfort of your home.
- Your optometrist/optician didn't give you one.
Optometrists usually omit the PD if they assume you're buying glasses from their shop. In this case, you can save the trip back and simply measure yours using the instructions above.
All glasses are made to order (with the exception of frame-only options). The total delivery time is calculated as follows:
TOTAL DELIVERY TIME = Processing time (3-4 business days) + Shipping time (10-15 working days)
Processing includes the time needed to craft your prescription lenses, mount them onto your chosen frame and pack your order. Shipping is the time required for your chosen shipping method to deliver your order.
*10-15 business days refers to regular shipping (free over $65). "Business days" excludes public holidays and weekends.
Yes, since prescription eyeglasses are considered a medical expense, you can use your flexible spending (FSA) or health savings accounts (HSA) dollars at EyeCandys.
Prescription eyeglasses (including readers), prescription lenses, and prescription sunglasses are covered. FSA and HSA funds can be used regardless of whether you have vision insurance.
There is no limit on how many pairs of prescription glasses you can purchase with FSA/HSA dollars. You just need to know how much you have in fund savings.
HSA funds are accrued throughout the calendar year, with contributions from individuals (up to $3300/year) and sometimes employers, like with a 401(k). You need to be enrolled in a high-deductible plan (minimum $1250) to be eligible for an HSA.
You can use your FSA/HSA funds to purchase prescription glasses. If you have an FSA or HSA debit card, use it to check out, just like you would with a regular credit card. This saves you the hassle of having to submit a reimbursement form to your insurance provider.
If you don't have a FSA/HSA debit card, simply check out with a regular credit card, print out the order confirmation and submit it it to your FSA/HSA provider. Usually, you wll be required to submit a reimbursement form along with the itemized receipt (which is the order confirmation email).
